Tamil almanacs come in two kinds, and they don't always agree. Most apps quietly pick one and hope you never notice. We'll tell you which one we compute, and how far the other sits from it.
What we compute
Thirukanitham
The computed kind — modern astronomy, checked against the sky itself. The same tradition as Vasan Panchangam and the government's Rashtriya Panchang.
And where it differs
Vakyam
The older hand-worked kind — Pambu Panchangam, Srirangam Kovil. Its timings sit about 40 minutes either side of ours, now and then up to three hours.
We measured that ourselves, against 15 dated pages of a published vakyam almanac, rather than guess at it. Same sky, older maths — both traditions are real. And if your family's paper names a different natchathiram than we do, Lumo tells you and explains why.
